David Chipperfield Architects
Since its foundation in 1985, David Chipperfield Architects has designed numerous projects and realised them worldwide. Buildings for the cultural sector are also included in the comprehensive works as well as residential and industrial buildings, private and public and the development of master plans. Private collections like the “Museo Jumex” in Mexico City are included in the portfolio of museums and galleries as well as public institutions like the rebuilt “Neue Museum” in Berlin. Further projects and typologies, for which David Chipperfield Architecs is well-known, are offices in London, Berlin, Milan and Shanghai.
Ongoing projects are the Nobel Centre in Stockholm, a new wing for the metropolitan Museum in New York for modern and contemporary Art, the extension of the “Kunsthaus” in Zurich in Switzerland, the basic maintenance of the “Neue Nationalgalerie” in Berlin, a skyscraper with diverse use at the New York Bryant Park, a luxury resort in Doha, Qatar, the James-Simon-Gallery as the new entrance building on the Berlin´s Museum Island, Elizabeth House, an emerging office and residential building near Waterloo in London, the palace of justice in Salerno, Italy, the new headquarters of the Korean cosmetic institute Amorepacific in Seoul as well as the residential building De Vere Gardens in London.
David Chipperfield Architects has been honoured over 100 times with international prizes and awards for excellent design. Among them are honours from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the Royal Fine Art Commission (RFAC) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA). In 2007 the office won the RIBA Stirling Prize for the ‘modern literature museum’ in Marbach. In 2011 the rebuilding of the “Neue Museum” was honored with the German Architecture Prize and the prize of European Union for contemporary Art- Mies van der Rohe-Preis. In 2011 David Chipperfield received the RIBA Royal Gold Medal for Architecture and in 2013 the Praemium Imperiale from the Japanese Art Association – both prizes in recognition for his life´s work.
